Boredom Busters ? Finding Rainy Day Activities For the Kids | Baby ...

Rainy days remind me of the chapter in Mrs. Piggle Wiggle?s Magic by Betty MacDonald called the ?Waddle I Doer?s.? Does your family get the ?Waddle I do? syndrome when it rains; endlessly asking ?Waddle I do? and wandering around the house not wanting to do anything you suggest? Having ideas and supplies ready and available ahead of time helps parents wipe away the rainy day doldrums. Here are some ideas that will bring a little sunshine into the house:

Create a Treasure Hunt

Give your little ?Waddle I Doers? small flashlights and clues. Use dress ups from Little Adventures to help them transform into princesses, knights, pirates, and superheroes to add that extra element of adventure during their hunt. If you have chores to get done that day, have them find clues while doing their chores. Jobs done as a pirate or princess are more fun and can send the imagination spinning.

Make Sugar Cookies

Sassafrass cooking sets make baking easy and fun to do with boys and girls. The Alphabet Fun baking set includes a mix, an apron, alphabet cookie cutters, mixing spoon and sprinkles. Cooking sets and pre-made mixes provide a creative activity with less stress. Think about dying the dough with food coloring, making colored or flavored frosting, and using other cookie cutters to provide artistic options while making this yummy treat on a gray day.

Pull Out the Play-Dough

Kids can use cookie cutters to make shapes or cool textures. It can be bought or made easily and inexpensively. Most ingredients are regularly found in the cupboard. To find an assortment of cooked and uncooked recipes online simple type ?play-dough recipes? in your favorite search engine. If you want to add a little color to your play-dough add Kool-Aid to the mixture. Not only does it add great color it smells fruity and fun too.

Build a Fort or Tent

This activity is always a crowd favorite. Grab some blankets and use the kitchen chairs and table to build a fort with your kids. Then get down on the floor and play with your little knights while they protect the fort and young princesses from dragons. When you get tired of the fort turn it into a tent. Bring in sleeping bags and flashlights, get your favorite stuffed animal, sing camp songs and tell stories.

Have Fun with Stickers and Paper

Pull out your box of markers, crayons, and colored pencils. Young artists will enjoy adding another imaginative element to their pictures with stickers from brands like Melissa and Doug. They offer everything from flowers and princesses to outer space and dinosaurs, both boys and girls will enjoy telling and retelling stories from the images they create.

At the end of the day pause for a moment and enjoy the sound of the rain hitting the roof, trees, and sidewalk. Smell the fresh air outside and watch rays of sunshine fill your home as little ones are busy with creative and imaginative indoor fun.
