CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa ? Mount Mercy and St. Ambrose came into Wednesday?s clash heading in different directions, and after 40 minutes of basketball, nothing had changed for either team when the Bees put the finishing touches on a 70-54 victory over the Mustangs at Hennessey Recreation Center.
It is now nine straight wins for the 18th-ranked Bees (19-8, 13-2 MCC), while the Mustangs (16-10, 7-8 MCC) dropped their fourth in a row to fall to sixth place in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. St. Ambrose maintained its grip on first place by three games over Ashford (18-9, 10-5 MCC) and William Penn (15-12, 10-5 MCC).
Junior forward Troy Peter scored 13 points off the bench for the Mustangs. Senior forward Sam Kenyi posted his 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Chad Underwood had 11 points and blocked four shots. Senior guard David Campbell chipped in nine points and four boards.
Marquez Davis poured in a game-high 25 points and snared six rebounds to lead the Bees. Justin Blondell added 13 points, Mike Kennedy and Chris Donnelly 11 points each. Donnelly also had 11 boards, Kennedy six.
Mount Mercy hosts AIB on Senior Day on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Hennessey Rec Center.
